Time tracking for invoicing, performance, and field proof

Time tracking is essential for every business, but how it’s done can vary between teams. We use it in-house for invoicing, but we’ve also tailored the tool to help clients track performance, manage engineers, or even capture proof of time on-site.

  • Time tracking across teams needed a flexible solution for invoicing and performance
  • Custom tool was developed to capture time automatically or manually
  • Field teams benefit from on-device customer signatures, providing proof of work
  • Categorisation and linking to clients, projects, and cost centres for reporting
  • The solution simplifies time tracking, enhancing efficiency without disrupting the process

We wanted an efficient way to log time for invoicing—without the friction of clunky systems or manual data entry. So, we developed a flexible tool that meets our needs and our clients’ unique requirements. One client needed visibility into how time was spent across projects and teams, using it as a performance indicator. Another needed a system to capture customer signatures at job completion, providing proof of time spent on site.

Off-the-shelf tools only offered basic timers, lacking the flexibility to support these specific workflows. In its simplest form, our tracker lets users manually start and stop the timer. But for more automated tracking, it can run in the background, capturing time without user input—seamlessly fitting into the flow of work.

For field teams, we added features like on-device customer signatures, giving clear proof of presence and work completed. Once signed, the entry is securely saved and linked to the relevant project, removing any doubt about the work done. All time entries can be categorised, annotated, and automatically tied to clients, projects, or cost centres.

This project proves that even routine tasks can be enhanced with thoughtful design. With the right tool in place, time tracking becomes a seamless part of the process—adapting to the business, not the other way around.
